When asked “what animals of a desert do you know?”, almost always the first thing that comes to mind is camel. So let's find out why this animal is so popular in this area and what interesting facts do exist about camels. The biggest misconception about camels is the thought that they have water in their humps. In fact, the humps accumulate fat reserves, which primarily serve to regulate the body temperature of the animal. The stories about camels that roam in the desert for many days without food and water are really impressive. It is not an exaggeration, these animals are really well suited to complex life in the desert. However, contrary to belief, camel stores nutrients not in the stomach.

Unlike many mammals, camels have no subcutaneous fat layer. Fat is accumulated in the hump, and when it is not enough of food and water, a camel uses its reserves.

Camels can lose up to 25% body moisture, while 15% are fatal for most of other mammals. That is why you mainly see camel wallpapers in desert, as they feel just fine there. 200 liters - so much water a camel can drink at a time. The average body temperature of a camel is among the highest in the animal world, and it can range from 34 to 47 degrees Celsius, depending on environmental conditions. Sweating starts at 41 degrees of body temperature, water is very valuable resource, so they do not want to lose it. You might already see on camel wallpapers that they eat thorns, they have adapted to such desert treats as there is acute lack of food in the hot areas.
